Hair Transplant Journey in Malaysia

As advised by doctor, I have been staying home after the procedure, spray saline solution every 30 minutes, takes medicine and apply antibiotic cream twice a day. Some blood stains remain at the back of the scalp. Minor pain on certain area but mostly bearable. Gotta wash with mild baby shampoo and apply the antibiotic cream. Hope it's healed soon.  Implanted area remains the same. Felt a little tightness on the skin but it's quickly relieved by spray. I will be visiting clinic on tomorrow for a full head wash. After a sleepless night with thick bandages wrapped around the back of my head, finally it's time to remove them! This morning at the clinic, bandages were removed, donor area was cleansed & shampooed and antibiotic cream was applied to avoid infection. No kidding, it really hurtssssssssss when nurse was ripping off those bandages from the back of my scalp. I was advised to wash the donor area with mild baby shampoo and apply antibiotic cream twice a day until it's healed. Doctor did emphasized multiple times not to touch the implanted area in any condition. This is right after bandages were removed. Those white dots were the antibiotic cream. Yes I chose to go with DHI  for my hair transplant. Why? Because of the professional consultation, reasonable price & 49 years of global reputation. OK let's start with what I had gone through for the day. 9:00 to 10:00 - Preparation (Signed consent letter, took few pills, changed into surgical gown, shaved hair & took photos.) 10:00 to 13:00 - Extraction of grafts from donor area (3 hours) 13:00 to 13:30 - Lunch Break (Lunch provided by clinic) 13:30 to 16:30 - Placement of grafts on bald area (3 hours) Although there was almost zero pain during the extraction (except when doctor injected anesthesia), it was really not comfortable to lay with face down on the bed for 3 hours, especially on the face area where the pressure concentrates. Few days before the procedure, blood test will be carried out for HIV 1&2, Anti HCV, HBV (HBsAg), BT, CT, PT, CBC & random blood sugar. Below are the pre-operative instruction provided by clinic before the procedure. Stop smoking 2 days before procedure. Avoid alcohol 24 hours before procedure. 7 days before procedure, do not take any aspirin or any medication Salicylic Acid, any anticoagulants, any vitamins, aloe, ginseng or any nutritional supplements. Continue taking medication for blood pressure, diabetes or any other medication prescribed. White hair should get dyed before the procedure. Wash hair on the morning and have light breakfast (no tea, coffee & orange juice) before procedure.  Wear buttoned up shirt on the day of procedure. Most importantly sleep early before the BIG day! Based on the graph on above, you can easily identify which stage of male baldness pattern you are in. I am at somewhere around stage 6 to stage 7 which doctor commented as critical stage as there's no visible hairline anymore. Doctor recommended me to do a transplant of 3,000 grafts which means 3,000 grafts will be moved from donor area to the bald area as shown on below. (One graft contains 2~4 hair strands in average) Bald area covered will be around the width of 3 fingers for 3,000 grafts. On top of that, doctor did mentioned he will try not to touch the middle area (circled in red on above) as there are still active hair scalps and it will cause shock to the existing hair scalps if new grafts are planted there, accelerating falling of existing hair. As mentioned on my previous post, I had visited 4 clinics in KL/PJ that offer hair transplant (FUE). Let's go through one by one, shall we? 1. Beverly (PJ) Consultation time: Around 30 mins (charged RM60)   Consultation content: Brief explanation on hair loss, estimation on grafts needed. Good: Clinic provides other services as well: cosmetic surgery, dental & etc.  Not so good: No so clear on the cost of total package including medicine, PRP & etc. Surgical team is not from local which requires advance booking.  2. Premier (KL) Consultation time: Around 45 mins (FOC) Consultation content: Detailed explanation on hair loss, estimation on grafts needed. Good: Was consulted by the surgical doctor himself who was able to explain the whole procedure in detail. Clear cost break down on the whole package. The million dollar question. Hair transplant. Why now? I am comfortable with the look, so do people around me. Is it worth the trouble? Will it be costly? Will it be painful? What happens if the transplant failed? Will I look worst? This is where I turned to Google for some answers or at least some insights on hair transplant. After some researches, apparently hair transplant is just a minor procedure which doctor won't even consider it as surgery due to the relatively low risk. As we are to take everything on the internet with a pinch of salt, I decided to pay visit to a few clinics for further clarification. I will share my finding on my next post. Stay tuned!
